Renting in Apeldoorn

Apeldoorn is a spacious, green city on the edge of the Veluwe national park, best known for Het Loo Palace. It has a calm rental market compared with the Randstad and suits people who value nature, space and good schools more than nightlife. Major employers include the Dutch tax administration and the Kadaster, and the city attracts families and professionals rather than students.

The most attractive older homes are in De Parken and Berg en Bos, near the palace gardens and forest. Newer family houses are in Zevenhuizen, De Maten and Osseveld-Woudhuis, and development continues in Zuidbroek. Rooms and furnished expat apartments are relatively rare, so most listings are unfurnished homes for longer stays. Be prepared for listings in Dutch and for landlords who want to meet you in person.

Distances within Apeldoorn are larger than you might expect, so check the cycling route or bus line to your workplace before you choose. Deventer is ten minutes away by train, Amersfoort around half an hour, and the A1 motorway makes driving to Amsterdam or Germany easy.

Tip: if you plan to explore the Veluwe, the northwestern districts give you forest trails almost at your doorstep.

What renting in Apeldoorn costs

Apeldoorn is cheaper than Amersfoort and the Randstad, and its rents match those of neighbouring Deventer and Zutphen.

Questions about renting in Apeldoorn

Three questions about renting in this city, answered briefly.

All frequently asked questions
Is Apeldoorn a good place for families?

Yes. Apeldoorn has spacious neighbourhoods, many primary schools, sports clubs and direct access to the Veluwe forests. Zevenhuizen, De Maten and Osseveld-Woudhuis offer family homes with gardens, while De Parken suits those who prefer an older house close to the centre and the palace gardens.

How easy is commuting from Apeldoorn?

Trains run to Deventer, Amersfoort and Zutphen, with connections to Amsterdam and Utrecht. The A1 and A50 motorways cross near the city. If you commute daily by train, look for a home within cycling distance of Apeldoorn station, as some outer districts are a long ride away.

Are furnished apartments available in Apeldoorn?

Some, but far fewer than in Amsterdam or The Hague. Most rentals are unfurnished or gestoffeerd, with floors and curtains included. If you need a furnished home for a short period, start with a temporary option and look for a longer-term unfurnished place once you have arrived and know the area.

Frequently asked questions

Does my pass renew automatically?

No. You pay once for a fixed period. On the end date your pass stops by itself and you get a message telling you it has ended. There is no direct debit and nothing to cancel.

How fast do I get an alert?

Listings are refreshed several times an hour. If a new home matches your search profile, it is on your phone within minutes. With the Week Pass you get an email every hour; from the Month Pass onwards it goes by WhatsApp.

Where do I respond to a home?

Directly to the landlord or agent. You get the full address, a reply text that is ready and your tenant file as a PDF. We are not an agency and we charge no agency fees.

What is the 48-hour rule?

Homes that have been online for more than 48 hours are fully visible to everyone, pass or no pass. The pass gives you the head start in those first two days, plus the help with responding.

What does a pass cost?

The Week Pass costs € 9.95 for 7 days, the Month Pass € 29.95 for 30 days and the Until You Find Pass € 49.95 for 60 days. You pay once. There is never a second charge.

Can I look around for free first?

Yes. Searching, filtering and viewing photos is always free. On new homes you see the rent, the neighbourhood and the features; the full address and responding come with a pass, or on their own after 48 hours.

How do I pay?

With iDEAL or PayPal. Your pass is active right after payment and you get an invoice by email. There is no direct debit.

Do I need a password?

No. You log in with your phone number: you get a code by WhatsApp or text message. No password to remember, nothing to forget.

What is in my tenant file?

You fill in your details once: income, work, household and motivation. We turn that into a tidy PDF that you send with every response. Exactly what landlords and agents want to see.

What if I find nothing within 60 days?

With the Until You Find Pass we then extend your pass free of charge in periods of 30 days, until you have a home, up to a maximum of 6 months after purchase. Conditions: your search profile stays active the whole time, you request the extension yourself and the promise applies once per customer. The full promise is in the terms and conditions.

Are the homes I see genuine?

Every home is checked daily to see whether it is still available. Rented homes disappear from your list, and we watch every listing for scam signals. The absence of a signal does not mean a listing is safe: never pay anything up front.

Can I search several cities at once?

Yes. With the Week Pass you have one search profile; from the Month Pass onwards you have three at once. Each profile has its own city, budget and number of rooms.
