Cookie policy

This English translation is provided for convenience. In case of any discrepancy, the Dutch version prevails.

1. What cookies are

A cookie is a small file that a website puts on your device and can read again later. Comparable techniques are local storage and session storage, with which a site stores something in your browser. Where we write "cookie" below, we mean those comparable techniques as well.

We use cookies for two things: to make the site work and keep you logged in, and to measure which advertisement leads to a pass. We do nothing more with them. We do not use cookies to follow you across other websites.

2. The legal rule we follow

Article 11.7a of the Dutch Telecommunications Act (Telecommunicatiewet) provides that we may only place or read cookies if we inform you about them and, for non essential cookies, have your prior consent. That rule applies to everything we put on your device or read from it, so to local storage as well.

That is why it works like this with us:

• We always place essential cookies. Without those cookies the site does not work, and consent is not required by law.
• We place all other cookies only after you have clicked "Accept" in the banner. That also applies to the click identifier of an advertisement.
• If you choose "Essential only", nothing is placed apart from the essential list below. The site then works as normal and you miss no feature at all.
• Refusing is just as easy as accepting: both buttons are next to each other, in the same step, the same size and both clearly readable. One click is enough.
• As long as you have not made a choice, everything that is not essential stays switched off.

3. Essential cookies, always placed

huurtreffer_cookies

• Who places it: Huurtreffer, stored in the local storage of your browser.
• Purpose: to remember what you chose in the cookie banner and when you chose it, so that we respect that choice, you do not get the banner again on every visit and we can ask you again after a year.
• Retention period: 12 months at most. After that we ask again.
• Consent required: no, this is necessary in order to act on your choice.

ht_sessie

• Who places it: Huurtreffer.
• Purpose: to keep you logged in after you have logged in with your code, and to link your pass and your account to your session.
• Retention period: up to 90 days, or shorter if you log out.
• Consent required: no, this is necessary for a service you have requested.

ht_beveiliging

• Who places it: Huurtreffer.
• Purpose: to secure forms, prevent misuse of login codes and enforce limits.
• Retention period: the duration of your visit; it disappears as soon as you close your browser.
• Consent required: no, this is necessary for security.

ht_taal

• Who places it: Huurtreffer.
• Purpose: to remember your language choice, so that logging in and your account open in your language right away. We do not store here which page or which advertisement you arrived through.
• Retention period: 12 months at most.
• Consent required: no, this is a preference you set yourself and it makes the site work the way you expect.

We place the cookies ht_sessie and ht_beveiliging at the moment you log in or use a secured form. If you have never logged in, they are not on your device. We place the cookie ht_taal at the moment you choose a language yourself in the language switcher. If we place a cookie under another name or with another period, we update this page before that goes live.

4. Measuring advertisements, only after your consent

These components work only after you have clicked "Accept". We use them to see which advertisement leads to a purchase, so that we do not spend money on advertisements that produce nothing.

• Who places it: Huurtreffer, stored in the local storage of your browser.
• Purpose: to keep the click identifier of the advertisement you arrived through, so that we can attribute a later purchase to the right advertisement.
• Retention period: 90 days.
• Consent required: yes. Without your consent we do not write this identifier and we do not read it. If you withdraw your consent, we delete it.

_gcl_au

• Who places it: Google.
• Purpose: linking an advertisement click to a purchase on our site.
• Retention period: 90 days.
• Consent required: yes.

_gcl_aw

• Who places it: Google.
• Purpose: keeping the click identifier of an advertisement, so that a later purchase is attributed to the right advertisement.
• Retention period: 90 days.
• Consent required: yes.

Other cookies from the same Google tag

• Who places it: Google.
• Purpose: measuring visits and conversions, and recognising the same visit within one session. Google may use names for this that begin with an underscore, such as _ga and _gid.
• Retention period: 24 months at most, depending on the cookie.
• Consent required: yes. Without your consent this tag places no cookie at all and reads nothing. The tag itself is loaded, so that we can see at aggregate level how many purchases come from a campaign. Google receives your IP address, the address of the page you are viewing and your browser details. If you do not want that either, block googletagmanager.com in your browser or use a blocker.

Data sent with the measurement

If you chose "Accept" and you buy a pass, we send Google an encrypted, hashed version of your email address or phone number, so that Google can link that purchase to an advertisement click. Google is also a controller for that measurement itself and has its own privacy statement. Without your consent we send nothing.

We use no third party advertising networks on the site, no social media buttons that read along and no recordings of your screen.

5. The fonts on the site

Our pages load fonts from Google. In doing so, Google receives your IP address, the address of the page and your browser details, even if you choose "Essential only". No cookie is placed for this and no identifier of you is stored or read. If you want to prevent this, you can block fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com in your browser; the site still works, just with a different font.

6. Consent Mode v2, what happens if you refuse

We work with Google Consent Mode version 2. That is a setting that tells the Google tag whether or not it may put anything on your device.

With us everything is set to denied by default. That applies to ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization and analytics_storage. Only when you click "Accept" do we set those four to granted.

If you choose "Essential only", this happens:

• No measurement cookie at all is placed on your device.
• No identifier of you is stored on your device or read from it.
• We send no data about you to Google, not even a hashed version of your email address or phone number.
• Google does receive a signal without a cookie, with your IP address, which lets us see at aggregate level and without tracing back to a person how many purchases come from a campaign.

That is roughly how we measure how our advertisements perform, without following you. If you do not want that signal either, you can block measurement entirely with the browser settings in Article 9.

7. Changing or withdrawing your choice

You can change your choice at any time. If you withdraw your consent, we stop placing measurement cookies immediately and we delete the click identifier from your browser storage. Cookies that Google has already placed you delete through your browser; see Article 9.

8. How long we keep your choice

We keep your choice for 12 months at most, together with the date on which you made it. Once those 12 months have passed, we show the banner again and ask for your choice again. If you clear your browser data, your choice is gone and you will see the banner again too.

9. Managing cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies yourself in your browser settings. That works for every website you visit.

• Chrome: Settings, Privacy and security, Third party cookies and Delete browsing data.
• Safari: Settings, Safari, Privacy and security, Clear History and Website Data.
• Firefox: Settings, Privacy and security, Cookies and site data.
• Edge: Settings, Cookies and site permissions.

If you block all cookies, you may not stay logged in and some parts of the site may not work properly. That is then down to the block and not to a fault on our side.

10. Personal data and cookies

If we process personal data through cookies, the rules of the General Data Protection Regulation also apply. Which data that is, what we use it for, who we share it with and how long we keep it is set out in our privacy statement. That page also sets out your rights and how you exercise them.

11. Changes to this cookie policy

If we start using a new tool that uses cookies, we update this page before that goes live, and we ask for your consent again where that is needed. The current version is always on this page, with the version date at the top.
